Pirate and shape fun in Year 1!
Friday 23rd May | 1 comment
Ahoy there me hearties! What an exciting last week of term in Year 1. The children all thoroughly enjoyed Pirate Day. In the morning they met Good Girl Pirate Pearl and Big Bad Barbara and the children had to help Pearl rescue Gertrude. We hope you all had fun on the treasure trail in the afternoon. Please see the separate posting for photographs of this great day. Thank you very much to everyone who is leaving comments on our blog. The children like reading your messages and are very excited when the number changes in the little orange bubble when somebody has left a comment!
We have revisited 2D and 3D shapes this week in numeracy and the children rotated around 3 different activities – sorting regular and irregular 2D shape jewels into a treasure box, using a right angle monster to hunt for right angles around the school and exploring 3D shapes. Some children are still unsure of all the shape names. Please can you help them practise by naming shapes around your home? They should all be able to confidently name hexagons, pentagons, cubes, spheres etc. and be able to talk about them using language such as faces and vertices.
The children have all finished their pirate stories and are very proud of being an author! They tried hard to use good sentence openers, time connectives and exciting adjectives. We hope you enjoyed reading the beginning of their stories during Thursday’s sharing session.
Your child should have brought home a letter all about our exciting Tour de France week. The children will be hopefully be spending most of Friday 6th June on their bikes so if they get chance they could maybe practise their cycling during the holidays and check that their helmet fits them correctly.
Remember that we have a training day on Monday 2nd June. We are learning more about blogging so our Year 1 blog will be even more exciting!
Have a great holiday.
