Finding out what life was like in a castle.
Thursday 19th June | 1 comment
This week the two Year 1 classes got together for some drama in the hall to find out what it was like to live in or around a castle in medieval times. The children were told that during their trip to Skipton castle they were needed to take on the jobs of the castle workers – but we had no idea what they did! Luckily Mrs Daniels had been sent some information packs about farmers and animal keepers, blacksmiths, stonemasons and carpenters, cooks and servants, hunters and hawkers and entertainers! The children worked in groups, looking through letters, catalogues, photos, diary extracts and more to piece together the lives of the workers and became ‘experts’ on one role. They then acted out the roles for the other children and were interviewed by roving reporter Mrs James.
Back in the classroom the children painted and collaged different pictures of medieval workers and wrote speech bubbles describing their roles. The work is on the display board outside 1D so come and take a look!
