Money, shields and drama in Year 1!

Friday 20th June | 1 comment

We have revisited money and giving change this week. The children had fun at our bike shop buying water bottles, bike pumps and pedal spanners! They had to pay for them and work out what change they would receive. Some children are still finding this quite difficult – please can you keep practising at home. Other children were extended to add 2 objects together and work out how much it would cost and how to pay for it.
In literacy the children enjoyed a drama workshop. They learnt all about the roles of people who worked in a castle. The children have created some super paintings and collages of jesters, pages and knights. Some children worked on the laptops on a program called 2publish and made posters about the different roles. All this brilliant work is on display in the corridor between 1D and 2H classrooms – have a look on a morning or after school.

In our curriculum sessions we’ve been learning about coats of arms and all the different meanings of them. The children have created their own coats of arms for their class thinking of things that are important to us at school – friendship, the learning hive and the class pets in 1GJ!
In our PE sessions we have been practising a medieval style dance in preparation for our banquet on the 7th July. Thank you to everyone who has already returned their RSVP.

It is our visit to Skipton Castle next week. 1GJ are going on Wednesday 25th and 1D on Thursday 26th. All the children need a packed lunch in a disposable bag. Please make sure they are wearing sensible footwear as they will be doing plenty of walking up and down the castle steps! They will be outside all day so they need sun hats and sun cream or raincoats depending on the weather forecast!! We will be opening the doors at 8.40am so we can set off at 9am.

Have a super weekend – hope the weather stays dry for the PTA sleep over.

It sounds like you have had a very busy week. Ruby enjoyed telling us about how some servants in castles had to sleep on hard floors! I am looking forward to the trip to Skipton castles. It looks like we will need sun hats and sun cream!
