The children are having lots of fun acting out castle stories in our new role play area. We’ve had battling knights, fierce dragons and royal banquets!

Dear Parents and Carers.
We had a fantastic end to our french themed week in Year 1. Well done to all the cyclists and scooterists in Year 1 who really impressed all the staff with their abilities – maybe we have a future Bradley Wiggins or Chris Froome at Farfield! We were also really lucky to be joined by Mrs Fensome on Friday. Lydia is an ex teacher from Farfield and she wowed us all with her Penny Farthing riding! She also brought a children sized penny with her and some of the children were excited to have a go. An exciting end to a tres bien week!

The children have all had a great week learning about France. They have enjoyed tasting French food and learning some of the language. Have they been speaking in French to you at home? They were all very interested learning about the Tour de France and the Grand Depart. They enjoyed watching clips from the race – especially the crashes! All the children have designed a Tour de Farsley jersey and we have hung them in our rooms like bunting. Come and have a look at them and see if there is any you would choose to wear.
The Tour de Farsley was a great success. In the morning the children took part in a variety of different cycling activities and in the afternoon we had a very special visitor. Mrs Fensome came back to school and brought her amazing Penny Farthing to show the children. See our separate post for photographs of the day – it will appear sometime over the weekend!
In numeracy we have been focussing on data handling. The children have been finding out which French food their friends like best and what is their favourite way to travel on wheels. The children have been collecting data using a tally chart. They put their data onto block graphs and Carroll diagrams. They then used these to ask and answer questions.
In literacy we have been creating bike safety posters. Some children designed theirs on the computer using 2Publish and others drew theirs on paper. The children had some great ideas about how to keep safe when riding a bike or scooter.
Next week we will begin our ‘Castle’ topic. The learning log homework this week is to create characters that may live in a castle – they need to draw and describe their characters. Don’t forget we will be celebrating the end of this topic with a fantastic medieval banquet on Monday 7th July at 2.15 pm. You are all invited to come and join in with this celebration.
Thank you for all your support with the Year 1 blog. The children really enjoy reading all your lovely comments.
Have a great weekend.

The children in 1GJ were very excited today when they saw the new flag counter on our blog. They are desperate for more flags to appear! Do you know anyone who lives in another country who could maybe visit our Year 1 blog?

1D had a fabulous time on the last day of the Summer 1 term. Our dojo time treat was a big pyjama party with dancing, singing and playing with the parachute!

As part of our work about the Tour de France 1GJ have been tasting French food. The children found out their group’s favourite French foods and recorded the information on tally charts and graphs. Later in the week the children will be doing some more data handling about their favourite way to move on wheels. I wonder if Mrs Galbraith likes skateboarding, roller skating or riding a bike! How do you like to travel on wheels?
