Welcome back Year 1
Sunday 22nd February | 5 comments
We hope you have all had a lovely half term holiday. We have got lots of exciting lessons planned for this next half term. In literacy we will be reading the story ‘Funnybones’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We will be using this book to help us create new characters and settings and write our own stories. We will also be using our senses to help us write poems.
Our science lessons are very exciting! We will begin by learning all about our bodies. How many body parts can you name already? We will find out how bodies work and what jobs different parts do and how we can look after our bodies. On Wednesday Sally’s mum is coming to talk to us about our bodies. She is a nurse – what questions would you like to ask her? We will also be investigating our five senses and doing lots of fun practical science activities.
We will then be having some visitors coming to stay with us …… Mr Garlicks chickens! We will be doing a mini topic all about chickens. We will be visiting the school chickens lots and doing research to find out chicken facts. We will be writing our own non fiction books. Please can you make sure that your child has a pair of Wellington boots in school from week 3 onwards.
In maths we will be focussing on telling the time. We will also be counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and using coins to help us solve word problems e.g. A pack of sweets costs 15p. How many lots of 5p will I need to pay for it? We will be introducing the multiplication symbol. We will also continue to practise our addition and subtraction skills and doubles and halving.
We have completed our mid term assessments and written your child’s reports. You will receive these during the next few weeks and we can discuss them in more detail at parents evening on the 17th and 18th March.
We are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
