Another eggcellent week!
Friday 20th March | 2 comments
We have had some visitors in Year 1 this week – Mr Garlick kindly brought his three chickens for a holiday! The children have had lots of fun looking after them and learning lots more chicken facts. They are all ‘chicken experts’ now! They enjoyed our science lesson this week when they had to investigate which food the chickens, giant snails and gerbils liked best. The animals are all very full now!
In literacy we have been learning about information books. We started by sorting texts into fiction and non fiction and discussing what non fiction books are and how and why we use them.
In our guided reading sessions we have focussed on reading information books and using contents pages, indexes and glossaries. We have also started to write our own non fiction book all about chickens. We are creating the book front covers on the laptops and you will be able to read our amazing books at our ‘Spring Chicken event’ on Tuesday 31st March.
In maths we have been doing lots of practical sharing using eggs, chickens and egg boxes. We also introduced the division symbol. You could practise this skill at home. “I have 15 eggs. I share them between 3 people. How many will they get each?” 15 ÷ 3 = ? Click here for some more resources and online games.
In PE we are practising our ball skills using large and small balls. We have been busy bouncing, rolling, kicking, dribbling and catching balls.
It was lovely to see you all at parents evening and discuss your child’s progress. Thank you for all your support with reading, spelling and their learning logs.
Have a super weekend.
