A great first week in Year One!
Friday 11th September | 6 comments
What a busy first week back we have had in Year 1. All the children have settled in well and are getting used to all the new routines. They have had fun exploring the classrooms and playing in the new areas. Which is your child’s favourite? They have also tried hard to complete the ‘Fantastic Five’ challenges.
We have been busy getting to know the children and doing some on entry assessments. We have heard all the children read and they have a new book to share with you at home. Please help your child change their books before and after school. We have also been checking which phonemes they know ready to start our daily phonic sessions. The children have also been busy writing about their summer holidays.
Each child tried to write their first name and surname. Now they are in Year 1 it is important that they can hold a pencil with a triangular grip, write both names and form all the letters correctly. Some children have been given a name formation book to help them to practise at home – little and often is best.
The children have had fun creating their own bees and giant flowers for our learning hive displays – they look great. They have visited the school library and chosen a book to share at home. Our library day is Friday so please make sure that they return their books each week.
Phew! What a busy first week back – they will all sleep well this weekend.
