Learning to tell the time, wonderful writing and an art gallery!

In maths this week we have been busy practising telling the time. We all made our own paper plate clock and had fun using this to practise o’clock and half past. Some children moved onto quarter to and quarter past. We also played time bingo and “What time is it Mr Wolf?”. We have also been updating our individual maths assessments. We will discuss your child’s progress at parents evening in March.
These are some of the games that can be used on a computer or tablet. Please click on the clock.
In literacy we have been looking at a lovely painting by Bruno Paladin called ‘Gingerbread Island’. We discussed who could live in the house and then did some drama acting out different story lines. We then moved onto writing a story independently in our writing achievement books.
The children tried hard to remember everything they have been taught this year including sentence structure, adjectives and conjunctions. They all worked well and wrote some super stories. We will be using this to help us assess what level your child is working at in their writing. We have also heard everyone read individually and played lots of phonic games.
We did our last piece of art work for the gallery. We used the work of Hunterwasser as our inspiration and all created a 3D building. (See our separate post about the art gallery)
On Thursday 1S were very lucky because they got a visit from their Year 4 reading buddies. 1S thoroughly enjoyed reading Year 4’s creative pop up books and learnt lots of new interesting facts about animals that are vertebrates. Can your child remember what they learnt?
We hope you all have a lovely half term holiday.
Thank you for all your support.
