More adjectives, number bonds to 10, weather and our world…

In our science and geography lessons we have begun to learn about the continents and oceans of the world. Each hive has been given a country and they all found that country on a map. We discussed where children had been on holidays and what the weather was like. We then looked at the 7 continents of the world. How many continents can your child remember? Can you help your child to learn the continents and oceans of the world?
We also looked at the different climates. We plotted the equator on a world map and discussed where in the world it is hot and cold.
Each day we’ve recorded what the weather was like in Farsley. It would be great if your child could continue this activity at home and record the weather during the weekend or in the holiday. The children also thought of their own weather symbols and gave a pretend weather forecast.
In our literacy lessons we’ve been reading lots of weather poems and then we all wrote our own autumn poems. They thought of some great ideas and adjectives including crunchy leaves, shiny conkers and bright, colourful leaves. The children have also continued to work hard to practise their cursive writing.
This week in maths we have been busy doing addition and subtraction calculations. We have also been practising our number bonds to 10.
In year 1 the children need to know these and be able to recall them quickly. We had fun using shaving foam blobs to create our number bond calculations. We also went to the Year One shop to see what products we could buy for 10p. Click here to play on this fun number bond game. Can your child tell you any pairs of numbers that make 10? Can they sing you the number bond song?
1 add 9, 1 add 9, 9 add 1, 9 add 1. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
2 add 8, 2 add 8, 8 add 2, 8 add 2. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
3 add 7, 3 add 7, 7 add 3, 7 add 3. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
4 add 6, 4 add 6, 6 add 4, 6 add 4. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
5 add 5, 5 add 5, 5 add 5, 5 add 5. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
Our number bond of the week is 5 + 5 = 10.
We had a fantastic harvest festival today. Wow! So many fresh vegetables harvested from our school farm! We could not believe how much the giant pumpkin weighed. Can your child remember? It was great to see so many Year One parents there. Thank you for your support and donations.
Please remember 1GJ are going to Denso Nature Reserve on Wednesday 19th October and 1S are going to Denso Nature Reserve on Thursday 20th October. The children can come to school in non-uniform, ideally leggings or tracksuit bottoms. Please can you ensure that your child is wearing appropriate footwear and a waterproof coat. We will be outside all day. The children need a rucksack or bag so that they can carry their own lunch. We are thinking about recycling so please can you try and reduce the packaging that is used for their lunch.
Please do tick ‘thumbs up’ if you have enjoyed reading this.
Have a great weekend.
