1S at Denso woods

1S had a brilliant time at the Nature Reserve at Denso Marstons.
First we met Steve, our wonderful guide and tree expert. Then we went exploring and looking for leaves. The children enjoyed collecting and sorting leaves and Steve was impressed by their knowledge as lots of children could name the leaves and trees they found. We then created a huge tree and brought it to life. We added leaves onto the crown, bark onto the trunk and created roots as long as we could manage. Steve then explained how a tree grows and lives and we even thought carefully about the life cycle of our huge tree. It was a very interactive lesson, the children learnt lots of science and had so much fun pretending to be leaves, flowers, bees and nutrients.
The children were then desperate for lunch (actually some children were desperate for lunch from the moment we set off!) Yum! After lunch the children had fun looking for ‘Boggarts’ – ask your child to tell you what one is. Maybe you have one living in your garden? Finally, we created our own boggarts and some children (adults!) created other animals that could be found in the woods. Can anyone spot a fox in the photos? A fantastic day and we will all sleep well tonight!
Thank you so much to the parents who helped – we really appreciate it!
Memories from our fantastic day…
