A very busy week…

In literacy we have been reading and writing instructions. The children followed a set of instructions to create a Christmas card and then the next day they wrote their own set of instructions. Can your child remember some of the bossy verbs they used?
In maths we have been adding and subtracting one digit and two digit numbers to 20. The children enjoyed going on a bus ride where the bus driver added passengers and then some passengers got off and so were taken away. The children were asked to write the corresponding calculations and there was some super maths. Please click here for a link to a previous blog which contains some interactive addition and subtraction games. We have been using the whole and part model to help the children gain an understanding of addition and subtraction. Can your child explain how the model helps?
We have also looked at a variety of word problems. Here are some examples. Can your child write some Christmas addition and subtraction word problems and bring them into school for the class to answer?
We all had a great time learning about how the Victorians celebrated Christmas on our trips to Thwaites Mill. We spent the morning in the kitchen and parlour playing with Victorian toys and making rag rugs and we followed instructions to make tasty lemonade. In the afternoon we had fun making Christmas crackers and cards. The children really enjoyed this trip and said, “This is the best trip we’ve ever been on!” Thank you to all the adults who came with us – we hope you enjoyed it too.

We then set out a museum in 1GJ and explored even more fascinating Victorian objects. Some objects were used around the house and school and some objects were children’s toys. Can your child tell you about the Victorian objects we looked at? Can they remember any similarities or differences to objects we have around the house nowadays?
Have a super weekend.
