Paintings and place value!

We have had a very exciting week in Literacy. We began by reading the story ‘Katie’s Picture Show’ by James Mayhew. In this book the main character climbs into lots of different paintings and has many exciting adventures. In groups we then wrote our own stories about falling into paintings – the children worked well together and created some super stories.

In Maths we have continued our work on place value, including finding one more and one less. The children enjoyed playing ‘Follow Me’ dominoes and making numbers with tens and ones.

In our art lessons we have been looking at the work of Pacita Abad and Frank Avary Wilson and have been creating our own canvases and collages.

We have also been looking at shapes and art in our maths lessons. We learnt about the artist Wassilly Kandinsky and the sculptor Gary Webb. Using 2D and 3D shapes we created our own artwork.

On Monday the children will be working with a real artist! Kate Park is going to teach them how to work with glass to create art.

Have a lovely weekend.
