A great last week of this half term…

Thank you to the parents and other family members that came along to our phonic workshop this morning. We are sure you will agree it was a great success and it certainly was one of the highlights of the week. We hope you enjoyed learning some fun games and listening to your child read some quite tricky alien words. Please enjoy using the pack we sent home over the holidays and the phonic screening will take place during the second week back.
In Literacy this week we have had some more special visitors because the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf paid us a visit. We had a fun session where we hot seated the wolf and the children thought of some very interesting questions to ask him. They then wrote the questions out in their books and most children remembered their question marks! Could they write a question to ask the 3 little pigs? We have also listened to every child read individually and played lots of phonic games.
In Maths we have been learning to read, write and use addition (+) subtraction (-) and equals (=) signs. The children had to write their own number sentences and decide whether a + or a – could be used. We also played a fun game of strike it out. Can your child remember how to play it?
We have continued to learn about types of animals in Science. The children thought about the animals that Mags brought and had to decide if they were a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. We then sorted a range of animals and thought carefully about their diets.
Both of the Year One classes were lucky enough to have a frog appear in their tanks this week. Can your child explain how it got there?
Have a super holiday and let’s hope the sun stays out.
Thank you for your support.
The Year 1 team.
