A disco in the kitchen and number bond fun!
Friday 6th October | 5 comments
Our literacy lessons this week have all been based on the fun story ‘Kitchen Disco’. The children had to write adjectives to describe a piece of dancing fruit! They thought of some great words such as juicy, smooth, groovy and wiggly. Then they all tried hard to write some sentences about the fruit. We even made our own funky fruit!
In phonics we have revised or, ur, ow and oi. In our key skills lesson we have formed l, t and i cursively and practised reading and writing the words are, was, you, one and ask. The children are all enjoying their guided reading sessions and are keen to read within their groups. Remember that your child can change their home reading books before and after school.
This week in maths we have been practising our number bonds to ten. In year 1 the children need to know these and be able to recall them quickly. We had fun using shaving foam blobs to create our number bond calculations. They also used part-whole models and ten frames to help them learn the number bonds. Can your child tell you any pairs of numbers that make 10? The number bond family of the week is 5+5=10 and 10-5=5.
Can your child sing you the number bond song?
1 add 9, 1 add 9, 9 add 1, 9 add 1. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
2 add 8, 2 add 8, 8 add 2, 8 add 2. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
3 add 7, 3 add 7, 7 add 3, 7 add 3. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
4 add 6, 4 add 6, 6 add 4, 6 add 4. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
5 add 5, 5 add 5, 5 add 5, 5 add 5. Bring them altogether, bring them altogether. That makes 10, that makes 10!
Our topic lessons this week have been linked to DT and Science. During our first lesson they learnt all about the life cycle of apple trees. The children visited the school farm and all picked an apple. Then they had to design their own baked apple and how they would fill it. Next they prepared and baked their apple. Finally they ate their delicious apple! In our next lesson we looked in detail at trees in our school grounds and named and labelled the main parts.
In our PE lessons we had fun playing skill and agility games with Mr Little and also practised our egg and pencil rolls in gymnastics.
Please remember 1GJ are going to Denso Nature Reserve on Monday 9th October and 1S are going to Denso Nature Reserve on Wednesday 11th October. Please can you ensure that your child is wearing appropriate footwear and a waterproof coat. We will be outside all day. The children need a rucksack or bag so that they can carry their own lunch.
Please do tick ‘thumbs up’ if you have enjoyed reading this.
Have a great weekend.
