Fun in the woods!

We all had a great time at the nature reserve at Denso Marston. Steve, the tree expert, taught us lots of new things. First we created a huge sculpture of a tree. We had fun being the trunk sucking up the water, waving leaves and buzzing bees! Then we went on a leaf hunt and we found some very interesting leaves. Then it was lunchtime – we were all very hungry! Finally we went on a scavenger hunt and found feathers, more leaves and lots of minibeasts and even a few frogs. We also met a few Boggarts – ask your child about them? It was a great trip. Thank you very much to all the parents who came with us – we hope you enjoyed it too.

In literacy the children have all written a recount of our trip to the nature reserve. The children met ‘Olivia Opener’ and she taught them about time connectives such as first, next, after that, then and finally. They all tried hard to include these in their writing. In our key skills lesson we practised forming u, j and y cursively. We revised er, ure and ear in our daily phonic lessons.

In maths we have focused on addition. The children used counters and numicon to develop their fluency when adding two digits together. The number bond family of the week is 6 + 4 = 10, 4 + 6 = 10, 10 – 6 = 4, 10 – 4 = 6.

We all enjoyed the Harvest Festival this morning. All the Year 1 children sang enthusiastically and our speakers were clear and confident. Well done!

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at our reading meeting on Monday 16th October at 3.30pm. If you can’t attend the session we will send home a copy of our presentation and handouts.

Individual photographs will be taken next Tuesday and sibling photographs will be taken on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend.
