A busy four days!

In maths this week we have focused on subtraction. In our first lesson we had fun with animals on a bus! The children used counters to answer subtraction calculations and develop their fluency. We then moved on to solving subtraction problems with pictures e.g. There are 8 skittles. 5 get knocked down. How many are left? Some children were extended to draw their own pictures to solve the calculations. Number bond family of the week is 7 + 3 = 10, 3 + 7 = 10, 10 – 3 = 7, 10 – 7 = 3.
We have had lots of poetry fun in our literacy lessons. We began by being witches and wizards and created our own rhyming potions. The children enjoyed mixing them in the cauldron. The children then wrote rhyming pairs using all the digraphs and trigraphs they have revised this half term. Their potions included goats and boats, a shower and a flower, the queen and some green! In our next lesson we had a visit from Vocabulary Vic – she loves adjectives! Vic had brought lots of autumn items for the children to describe including some very prickly sweet chestnuts, beech nuts and lots of lovely autumn leaves. The children then wrote a simple list poem using autumn words. We have heard all the children read individually and many of them have moved up to the next level – well done. We have updated their Bug Club books ready for the holiday. In phonics we have revised all the phase 3 phonemes and practised reading and writing says, she, our, his and has. We have moved onto the one armed robot family in our handwriting lessons and this week practised writing r, n and m.
In our topic lessons we have been learning about the weather. The children were very interested in our new weather station which is in our outdoor area. The children have used it to measure the wind speed and direction, rainfall and the temperature.
Have a lovely half term holiday.
