Watch out there are dinosaurs about!

We had a very exciting start to our week – something had been in our classrooms over the weekend and made a bit of a mess! We looked for clues and found giant footprints and a letter from a Tyrannosaurus Rex!! There were also lots of very interesting T Rex facts hidden around our rooms. Did you know they were as tall as a bus and its arms didn’t reach its mouth? This inspired us to write our own T Rex fact book that we are going to share with our Year 6 buddies next week. Miss Bray has set up a camera to try and film the dinosaur if it comes back to school over the weekend – watch this space…
In phonics we have focused on u-e, are and ore. Please keep practising the real and nonsense words that are in your child’s reading record each week. We have learnt how to join up ng, igh and ee in our handwriting lesson. We have all read non-fiction texts in our guided reading sessions.
In maths we have had a week of addition. We began by using a number line to add and then moved onto practising our number bonds to 10 and 20 and looking for patterns. Number bond family of the week is 13 + 7 = 20, 7 + 13 = 20, 20 – 13 = 7, 20 – 7 = 13.
We have begun our art topic and we have been ‘Art Gallery Managers’. We have learnt about different types of art including installation art, sculpture and collage. The children had to sort lots of different art into groups and decide upon their likes and dislikes. 1B will be doing this lesson next week.
We looked in more detail at the artist Pacita Abad and used difference media to design a piece of art to paint onto a canvas.
1B visited Bradford Industrial Museum and all enjoyed an ‘Art of Noticing’ workshop which was led by an art expert from Cartwright Hall Art Gallery. The children were very well behaved and the art experts were very impressed with our skills! We had a fantastic time exploring and creating our own art work. We used a variety of materials throughout the morning: can you child remember what we used?
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who volunteered to help, we really appreciate all your support.
Have a lovely weekend.
