Dinosaurs, bar models and lots of art!

In maths we have continued with our work based on addition. The children were introduced to a tool called the bar model -can your child explain what a bar model is and how it can help with addition calculations? As they move through school they will use bar models to support them with different aspects of maths; including multiplication and fractions. Number bond family of the week is 15 +5 = 20, 20 – 5 = 15, 5 + 15 = 20, 20 – 15 = 5.
As well as the dinosaur exploring our playground we had a friendly one visit our classrooms. We asked it lots of questions about being a Tyrannosaurus Rex and it gave us lots of facts to finish our information books. In phonics we have focused on c says s, g says j and silent k,w,g. In handwriting we have learnt how to join ai, ar and ay.
1GJ shared their dinosaur book with their buddy this week and 1B are meeting their buddies next week.
In our art lessons we have been looking at the work of the artist Frank Avary Wilson and have been creating our own collages on umbrellas and bottles! We have also been busy painting our canvases in the style of Pacita Abad. We still need more clear plastic bottles and cereal boxes please. 1B enjoyed being ‘Art Gallery’ managers and had fun exploring different types of art.
1GJ enjoyed their visit to Bradford Industrial Museum and learnt a lot from the art experts from Cartwright Hall Art Gallery. They used different media and materials to draw and looked at a variety of art work, artefacts and machinery. All the children were so enthusiastic and Jane and Naseem were impressed with their art skills.
Thank you to all the parents who supported us on this visit. We hope you enjoyed it too.
Missing Wellies! Please can you check at home and see if you have anyone’s wellies please? We have two missing pairs.
Have a lovely weekend.
