Royal Visitors in Year 1!
Friday 16th November | 1 comment
What an exciting week! We had a visit from Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. They helped introduce our history topic and the children learnt lots of facts about them. We then sorted objects and decided which queen would have used them. Next week we will be making a class museum and looking in more detail at some Victorian artefacts. In your child’s book bag there is a letter about our trip to Thwaite Mill.
In our literacy lessons we read the story ‘The Princess and the Pea’. We also had fun acting it out – the bed definitely wasn’t comfy! We discussed the different parts of a story – beginning, middle and end. The children then retold the story and all tried hard to remember to use finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.
In phonics we learnt the phonemes ay, ou, ie and ea. In our guided reading session we introduced the ‘Reading Dogs’. This half term we are focusing on Predicting Pip.
In maths we have finished our addition and subtraction unit of work. The children have been jumping up and down a number line, adding and taking away counters and showing number sentences. Next week we will be looking at 2D shapes!
Number bond family of the week is 9 + 1 = 10, 1 + 9 = 10, 10 – 1 = 9, 10 – 9 = 1
We have had lots of fun raising money for Children in Need. We hope you all enjoyed our rock performance!! Thank you very much for all your kind donations.
Have a great weekend.
