Christingles and maths fun!
Friday 14th December | 2 comments
In our RE lessons this half term we have been learning about celebrations and special occasions including Diwali, weddings, birthdays, Eid, Holi and Christmas. The children enjoyed looking at and discussing each other’s photographs, from home, of them celebrating with their families. We then looked more closely at the Muslim celebration of Eid. We finished this unit of work with our trip to St John’s church – where they learnt about the Christian christingle celebration. Reverend Hannah also explained about the advent candle and some children helped her light it. Thank you very much to all the parents and grandparents who supported us on our visit.
In maths we have been consolidating lots of the things we have learnt so far this year. We have been developing our fluency when adding 2 numbers together. The children are now adding with more confidence using their mental maths skills, number lines and counters. Keep practising those number bonds!
All the children have now finished their vehicles and are very proud of them! This week we evaluated them and wrote sentences about their amazing vehicles. The children used time connectives such as first, next, after that and finally in their writing. In phonics we learnt the phonemes au, aw, ore and are. We are also busy hearing all the children read individually and many of them have moved onto the next level – well done. We will update their book allocation on ‘Bug Club’ ready for the holidays.
We are looking forward to seeing you all next week at our Christmas performances. Keep practising all the songs at home. Our performances are in the junior, south hall, on Tuesday at 2pm and Wednesday at 9.30am. Here is the Seating Plan.
We need lots of large cereal boxes for our art work in January – so please start saving them!
Have a super weekend.
