Life savers in Year 1!
Friday 12th July | 2 comments
On Tuesday we enjoyed a visit from Martin, a volunteer from the RNLI the charity that saves lives at sea. We found out all about the different types of boats used by the RNLI, what flags on beaches tell us and what to do in an emergency. The children now all know what to do if they come into difficulties in water – they should lean back, try to float as they wave with one arm and use the other to swim. Lots of children got the chance to try on the safety equipment that Martin uses. Did you know that all of the life vests, lifeboats, specialist equipment etc is funded solely through donations? The children were very proud that they raised £13, thank you for your generosity.
In literacy and history we have been learning about a real life saver! The children found a mystery suitcase with some clues inside. They wrote some great questions to try and find out who the suitcase belonged to and discovered it was Grace Darling. To find out more about this brave hero click here.
We have had fun exploring slime, slippery spheres and magic sand in our science labs this week. Miss Bray also showed us her balloon helicopter!
We all enjoyed Sports Day. Look at us competing in all the different races…
This morning we all enjoyed seeing our Year 6 buddies. They heard us read and then we all had an ice pop.
We can’t believe it us our last week in Year 1 next week! Where has this school year gone??
Have super weekend,
The Year 1 Team
