English

We have been talking about our families and the children all drew a picture of their family and labelled it. We have also begun our daily phonic lessons. This week we have revised ll, ff, ss, and zz.

Maths

In Maths we have been practising forming our numbers and counting. We have been finding out about number bonds to 10. The children have enjoyed learning a number bond to 10 song! You can also join in at home using this link:

Key Skills

Each week the children will have key skills lessons. This half term we are focusing on the correct formation of the letters and digits. This week we looked at the ‘Curly Caterpillar’ family and practised writing c, a and d cursively and forming 0,1 and 2 correctly.

History

We had fun looking at their baby photographs and talking about how they had changed. They thought about what they needed when they were a baby and what they need now. Look out for our ‘Guess Who?’ displays. Can you work out who all the babies are?

PE

In PE the children had fun outside doing lots of  SAQ (speed, agility, quickness) activities. Our second PE lesson every week will be focusing on gymnastics and the children will be learning different balances, jumps and rolls.

Art

We have all enjoyed painting and drawing our self portraits.

Friday Afternoons

This week we started our exciting Friday afternoon lessons. The children will do different activities each week. This half term they will do RE, music, food skills and a tree walk.

Other Year 1 news

We are visiting the school farm over the next weeks – please can your child bring in a pair of wellington boots to leave at school? They can use their new welly pegs to keep them together.

The children were very excited about their first homework task in their learning logs!! This work is due in on Wednesday 25th September. Thank you for all your support with reading, phonics, spellings and learning logs – it really does make a difference.

Don’t forget to bring your soft toy to school next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team

The portraits look great and Ayla enjoyed her tree walk. No learning logs came home though.

  2. Sonia (kaiyan's mum) says:

We have been listening to the number bond to 10 song at home too. Kiki loved taking a special book in this week and sharing it with his friends.

  3. Mairi says:

Can’t wait to see the baby photos, they look super cute. Cate is really enjoying year 1 and likes her new teachers… she told me that Mr Garlick thought she looked like a canon ball with her bike helmet on!

  4. Amy Dennis says:

The self portraits are fantastic! The baby photos are tricky – it’s quite difficult to work out who is who!

  5. Sheila singh( vanshika mum) says:

Great self portraits. Looking great Vanshika enjoyed the number bond song and we are very happy that she got the special mention in this weeks Friday assembly for her hard work and the best she can be.

  6. Gill & Frederike says:

Frederike says, “it is very good in year 1 and it is fun and I like PE. I hope everyone has a good time in year 1 too”
