Look what is happening in Year 1!

A busy 4 days!

Thursday 24th October | 2 comments

We have been exploring autumn objects including some very prickly sweet chestnuts, beech nuts and lots of lovely autumn leaves. The children then wrote super sentences about the autumn objects, using lots of great adjectives. We also had fun creating leaf characters and writing about them.

We have heard all the children read individually and many of them have moved up to the next level – well done. We have updated their Bug Club books ready for the holiday. In phonics we have revised air and qu and all the tricky words we have learnt this half term .

We have been ordering numbers using positions. The children have enjoyed carrying out a range of races to help learn the language of 1st 2nd and 3rd.

We have also recapped the objectives we have learnt this half term. We have reviewed counting forwards and backwards, counting on 10 frames and using the language of greater than and less than to compare numbers.

Please keep practising the part -whole models at home ready for our addition and subtraction lessons next half term!

We have been learning about the seasons and weather. The children were very interested in our weather station which is in our outdoor area. The children have used it to measure the wind speed and direction, rainfall and the temperature.

We have continued our work about trees. Both classes have chosen a tree and we will visit it each season and observe the changes.

This afternoon we enjoyed visiting Year 4. They had made some electronic games and we had fun playing them.

Have a lovely half term holiday.
