A great day at Skipton Castle

The highlight of our week was our trip to Skipton Castle. The children were very enthusiastic and the guides were impressed with their castle knowledge. The children loved exploring the castle – especially the long drop!

Thank you to all the parents who came with us. We hope you enjoyed the day too.
1P have been reading the story ‘The Queen’s Knickers’ by Nicholas Allan. This is a fun story where the queen loses her pants!!
The children enjoyed creating their own pair of pants and using adjectives to describe them. They designed under the sea pants, space pants, dinosaur pants and jungle pants! Then they wrote sentences about their knickers.
1G wrote recounts about their visit to the castle. They all tried hard to use time connectives such as first, next, then, after that and finally in their writing.
In phonics we have learnt ay, ir, and ie. Please keep practising the phonemes and words in their reading records.
We have been busy using a range of methods to solve addition equations up to 20. The children have worked hard to solve addition problems using 10 frames, part whole models and with a number line too!
We have started our unit based on materials and their properties. The children enjoyed exploring, discussing and sorting different materials. The clay was very popular! They even had to choose which material would be best to make a pair of glasses that they could see through. Can they remember the new word they learnt which means see through?
We learnt about Remembrance Day and the children found out why some people wear poppies. The children also created their own sun catcher poppy.
This week it is anti-bullying week. We have been thinking about what makes a good friend and created a class poster.
We have had lots of fun raising money for Children in Need. Thank you for all your kind donations. The children looked amazing dressed as adjectives. We had lots of spotty, brave, sporty, strong, stripey, cool, sparkly and sleepy children! We enjoyed a morning of adjective and reading fun. We read the book ‘Dangerous!’ by Tim Warnes and had fun covering our classrooms in adjectives!!
We all enjoyed sharing a book with our Year 5 ‘Reading Buddies’.
Have a lovely weekend.
