We hope that you all enjoyed our Christmas production ‘The Bossy King’. We were very proud of all the children – well done Year 1.

English

In phonics we have practised all the phonemes we have learnt so far this year – please keep reading and writing them at home. There are games on ‘Spelling Shed’ to help with spelling and phonics. We have also heard the children read individually and updated their book allocation on ‘Bug Club’.

Maths

We have done our end of unit assessments. All the children tried really hard – well done! Keep playing on ‘Mathletics’ at home.

Christmas Fun!

The children all had lots of fun at our Christmas party. They enjoyed lots of different party games and lots of delicious treats!  The children were all very excited when our special visitor arrived….it was Father Christmas!

Thank you for all your lovely cards, messages and presents. We hope you all have a super holiday and we look forward to seeing you in 2020!

Christingles and 2D shape fun!

December 13, 2019 at 3:32 pm

Religious Education

This half term we have been learning about celebrations and special occasions including Diwali, weddings, birthdays, Eid, Holi and Christmas. The children enjoyed looking at and discussing each other’s photographs, from home, of them celebrating with their families. We then looked more closely at the Muslim celebration of Eid. We finished this unit of work with our trip to St John’s church – where they learnt about the Christian christingle celebration. Reverend Paul also explained about the advent candle and some children helped light it. Thank you very much to all the parents and grandparents who supported us on our visit.

English

We have been busy following instructions to make a Christmas card. When we had finished creating them we wrote our own set of instructions using time words such as first, next, after that and finally.

In phonics we have revised all the phonemes that we have learnt so far this year. Please keep practising them at home. We are also busy hearing all the children read individually and many of them have moved onto the next level – well done. We will update their book allocation on ‘Bug Club’ ready for the holidays.

Maths

We have been naming and comparing 2D and 3D shapes using the language of sides and corners. The children have enjoyed playing a guess the shape game. The children have worked hard to solve shape problems and give reasons for their answers too!

The Bossy King

The children have also been busy rehearsing the Christmas show. Thank you for all your help learning the song words at home – keep practising! The performances are on Tuesday 17th December at 2pm and Wednesday 18th December at 9.30am in the Junior Hall. 1G will be sitting on the benches at the left hand side of the stage, as you look at it from the audience. 1P will be sitting on the benches at the right hand side of the stage (near the fire exit to the car park) All the children have a turn on the stage!

Christmas Party

We are looking forward to our Christmas party next Thursday. Please remember to bring your 50p’s in for our party food!

We need lots of large cereal boxes and shoe boxes for our art work in January – so please start saving them!

Have a super weekend.

An amazing banquet at Farfield Castle!

December 6, 2019 at 2:32 pm

English

We have been learning about who lived and worked in a castle. Then we wrote facts about either a lord, lady, knight or jester. The children used some great vocabulary in their writing. In phonics we have learnt the phonemes au, ore, are and ey. Word of the week was jester.

Maths

We have been learning about 3D shapes. The children have enjoyed going on a shape hunt and finding objects which were the shape of a sphere, cuboid, pyramid and cube. We found some interesting objects around the classroom you could also go on a 3D shape hunt at home too!

History

The children all enjoyed designing and creating their own coat of arms ready to display at the banquet.

Banquet

We had a great time preparing for the banquet. We baked gingerbread castles and created some repeating pattern bunting to decorate the banqueting hall.

We all had fun at the banquet – we danced, ate and laughed! Even Lord and Lady Farfield joined in the celebrations. A great afternoon was had by all.

The children have also been busy rehearsing the Christmas show. Thank you for all your help learning the song words at home – keep practising! The performances are on Tuesday 17th December at 2pm and Wednesday 18th December at 9.30am in the Junior Hall.

We need large cereal boxes for our art topic in January – please start saving them.

Remember next Tuesday it is Christmas jumper day and we will all be enjoying Christmas dinner together. The Christmas fair is on Wednesday.

Have a super weekend.
