We hope that you have all had a lovely holiday. We have lots of exciting lessons and activities planned for the next half term. Our topic is ‘What happens in an art gallery?’ and we will be learning all about different types of art and creating our own artwork using various skills and techniques. We even have a real artist coming into school to teach us how to create fused glass. We also have our trip to Cartwright Hall. You will all have an opportunity to look at all the amazing work we create at our own art gallery on Thursday 13th February from 3.15pm in the school hall. More details will be sent home soon.
Our first week back will focus on the the Polar regions. We will find out lots of facts. We then move onto a unit of work about dinosaurs and fantasy settings and the children will be creating their own characters and settings and writing stories. We have transformed our role play areas into dinosaur lands and also have created some polar areas to explore.
In maths we will continue our work on place value, addition and subtraction. We will also use this knowledge to help solve problems.
In science we will be developing our working scientifically skills and doing various investigations, including experimenting with ice and using materials to protect a dinosaur egg!
In our computing lessons the children will be learning about algorithms. They will do various fun tasks using the laptops, bee-bots and iPads.
Our RE unit for this half term is ‘What does it mean to belong to a group?’ We will be talking about groups they belong to and then comparing differences and similarities between a church and a mosque.
Our PPA time will continue on a Friday afternoon and the children will have fun during the rotation of lessons. This half term they will be doing art, RE, music and food skills.
Thank you for all the cereal and shoe boxes – we still need lots more please!
Phew! What a busy and exciting half term.
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
