Look what is happening in Year 1!

A VERY busy week!

Friday 26th June | 1 comment

We’ve had another exciting week – a trip to Blackhill Woods and a pirate day. But we’ve still managed to do lots of work! In maths we’ve been developing our multiplication skills. We used numicon to help us practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Can your child tell you what 2 lots of ten is or what is 5×2=? We then used this knowledge to help us solve some pirate multiplication problems, for example “How many hands do 9 pirates have?” Click here for some games we have used in class.

In literacy we wrote a recount about our trip to the woods. The children remembered everything they’ve been taught this year and did some super writing. You will be able to look at all their great work at our next sharing session on the 9th of July – more details will be sent home soon about this. The children also read a story that Big Bad Bertha had written but unfortunately she had made quite a few mistakes! The children edited her story and improved it by adding punctuation, adjectives and conjunctions.

We have continued to use ‘Purple Mash’ on the laptops and looked at coding and map programmes. Has your child shown you this ICT programme at home?

Next week we are going on a trip around the British Isles!! We will be tasting shortbread, seeing the sights of London, playing cricket with an afternoon tea break and learning how to do Irish dancing and lots of other fun activities. Do you have any books or artefacts we could use? Do you own a kilt or some bagpipes?

Have a great weekend.
