Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?
Friday 21st May | No comments yet
All of our English work this week has been based on the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have read various versions of the story and had fun acting it out.
We are busy planning and writing our own stories. Luckily in Year 1 we have some fantastic imaginations, so rather than using the goats and the troll we decided to create our own characters. This week we have planned our stories and we will write them next week. Our story plans featured very interesting characters, including an evil octopus, friendly butterflies, quiet badgers and an angry shark! We are looking forward to reading their finished stories next week.
In phonics we have revised air/ear/ure/are, consonant clusters and compound words. Please keep practising reading and writing all the phonemes at home.
In our weekly reading lessons this half term we have been using our reading dogs to help us to develop our different reading skills. We have been using Rex Retriever to help us to retrieve information and facts from the text to answer questions. We have been using Vocabulary Victor to look at why the author has chosen to use certain words in the text and what those words mean. We have also been using Inference Iggy to help us to look for clues in the text that might tell us how a character is feeling or why something might be happening.
We have updated everyone’s book allocation on Bug Club. Please keep reading lots at home.
This is our final week learning about multiplication – making and sharing equal groups. We started by working in hive groups and pairs to share cubes in to equal groups. Can we make equal groups? How many objects are in each group?
We learnt how to share in to equal groups.
Please keep practising counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s at home.
Design and Technology
We received an exciting letter from the Billy Goats Gruff asking us to make them some new bridges! We had a fabulous time choosing materials, figuring out how best to fasten our bridges together and making sure they were strong enough to carry the three goats. Some children even added troll traps!
Finally we tested and evaluated our bridges.
Where is the missing Gingerbread Man?
This week he has travelled to New York, Florida, Las Vegas, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Will he ever return to Farsley Farfield?
Animal Workshop and Rodley Trip
Thank you to everyone who has paid for the Animal Workshop and returned their Rodley Nature Reserve consent form. The children are looking forward to both of these events.
Have a super weekend.
